What is Giclée? Giclée pronounced "zhee-clay," is an invented term for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word 'giclée', from the French language word 'gicleur' meaning 'nozzle', was created by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial 'Iris proofs' from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The term, originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print. You can find out how we make your canvas by clicking here. What type of printer do you use? We use an Epson Stylus Pro 9800 printer which uses UltraChrome K3 inks and at a resolution of 1440dpi. For full details about this large format printer, click here. What type of canvas do you use? Short answer; the best! Longer answer; we use ‘Brilliance Chromata White’ canvas which has been tested by a UKAS accredited laboratory and concluded that it meets and exceeds the standards set forth by the ‘Fine Art Trade Guild for ph and light fastness’. Brilliant Chromata White Canvas is a premium grade fine art canvas designed for high-end giclée reproductions that require exceptional colour gamut and longevity. The canvas is also acid free and water resistant and utilises cutting edge technology to deliver a bright white canvas without the use of optical brightening additives (OBAs) or fluorescent whiteners, which are known to deteriorate and yellow overtime. The Chromata technology creates a highly stable white base with increased discolouration resistance to ultraviolet light. Colour shifting is further reduced by stabilising the whiteness of the base with special anti-oxidation technology. Click here to see the certificate awarded by the Fine Art Trade Guild. What is gallery wrapping? Gallery wrapping is the process of stretching the canvas over our frames so that the image goes all the way around the frame to the back so that the design is visible on every side. What is a protective coating? We protect all our canvases with Glamour™ II Giclée Varnish which has been developed to protect, preserve and enhance fine art and photographic prints produced on digital inkjet printers. This new non yellowing, water based varnish is a perfect solution for easy inkjet print finishing. Glamour™ II enhances the colour of pigmented and ultrachrome inks on matte media and increases resistance to image fading. Additionally, it will protect your images against moisture and abrasion. We offer this service as standard and at no extra cost as we believe that this process is essential and it's not something that all canvas printers do. Who supplies your frames? No one. We make the frames ourselves. We use the best materials and tools to custom make every frame just for you. Do you only print photos? No, we can print any design you like. For example, if you have a favourite painting your child has done for you, then we can produce a canvas of that as well. This is a very common request and can make a very good canvas! For more details about this service, please visit our 'Photos to Canvas' section. Do you only do the sizes listed? No, these are just a guide for pricing and is considered to be 'ordering from the menu'. We can make your canvas to any size and any style. For further details about custom sizes please contact us and specify your needs. Are the sizes quoted for the ‘face’ of the canvas? Yes, some canvas printers will quote you for the size of the print, we don’t. The size we quote is for the face of the canvas. Will my canvas come ‘ready-to-hang’? Yes, all our canvases come fitted with a CWH hanger so that your canvas sits flat to the wall. For more details, click here. How long will my order take? Your order will take between 5-7 days after payment has been received. Sometimes sooner, never later! I need my canvas urgently, can you help? We don’t want to lose your custom so we will do everything we can to get your canvas to you when it's needed. The quickest we could possibly get your canvas to you is 2 days as we have to allow for drying times for inks and protective coatings. Please contact us should you need your canvas in a hurry and let us know the 'deadline'. What payment methods do you accept? We accept all major Credit & Debit Cards via Nochex, we also accept payments by PayPal and Google Checkout. Do you deliver outside of the UK? Yes we deliver to EU countries and the USA/Canada. Can I display my canvas outside? No, we wouldn’t recommend this, the canvases are for indoor use only. My question isn’t listed here. For a prompt reply, contact us with your question and we will do everything we can to help.
